Walter Thornburgh
Walter emmigrated to America with his two brothers, Thomas and Edward, and sister Judith, between 1715 and 1718, first to Chester Co, Pennsylvania, where, in 1739, he is listed as a landowner. Received a grant of land in Frederick Co, VA, in 1752

Walter Thornburg married Margaret, possibly at Hopewell Monthly Meeting, Frederick Co, Virginia, whose records are lost. But the Ballinger and Mills families founded Hopewell in 1734, and remained associated with the Thornburgs for the next century. They moved to Guilford Co, NC. Quakers, they attended New Garden Monthly Meeting 1754, until Deep River Monthly Meeting was organized in 1778 and Springfield MM in 1790. Walter probably died in 1783.

Mary Thornburg (c1739-c1807) m.1765 Robert Turner (1735-1780)
Mary Thornburg, born about 1739, was disowned by Springfield Monthly Meeting, Guilford, NC, on 23 Feb 1765, for marrying outside the faith,
(Henshaw Quaker Records v1, p.577) She was married 23 Feb 1765 to Robert Turner (reputedly born William Hand in Liverpool, 1735. A Colonel in the British Army in the French and Indian wars, he deserted, changed his name, and took the occupation of a tailor.) A loyalist in the Revolution, his land was judged confiscated in 1779 and granted to someone else. But Robert was off fighting against the Revolutionaries, and Mary could not be put off the land because Robert had not acquired proper title to it. Robert fought for the British under Patrick Ferguson, and probably died at the Battle of Kings Mountain 7 Oct 1780, or at least was not heard from thereafter.
Mary was certified from Springfield to Westfield MM, Surry Co, 1791, and to Lost Creek MM, New Market TN, 1797 She was among the representatives sent to New Garden MM to authorize New Hope in 1795. On 28 Feb 1807 Mary Turner was certified to Miami MM in Ohio, but joined Center MM in Clinton Co, 3 miles NE of Wilmington, on 6 June 1807, and apparently died soon after.
